School-Based Therapist
Position Requirements: Master Degree in Psychology/Social Work or other related field. Candidate must be licensed in the state of Pennsylvania (LPC or LSW), possibly credentialed through insurance providers. This candidate must have 3-5 years post-graduate clinical experience, working knowledge of mental health law, special education law and services available in the community. This candidate must possess excellent verbal skills and writing skills, the ability to think quickly on his/her feet, be able to work as a member of a team and also be able to work effectively in an independent manner.
Job Responsibilities: The primary focus of this position is to provide support to identified individual students. This support could be delivered on a weekly, on-going basis to a student who has exhibited chronic behavioral and/or emotional needs. This support could also be delivered to a student or students that are experiencing distress due to a new situation in their life such as parents divorcing, a parent or sibling that is ill, a parent or sibling that has passed away, the break-up with a boyfriend or girlfriend or other such unexpected events that have an immediate impact on the student’s day-to-day success within the school setting. In addition, this professional will be able to design and facilitate specialized group counseling sessions for a specific need within a group of students. These specialized groups would be time-limited and designed based on needs of students and requests from teachers, principals and parents.
This professional would be available to any student that was referred for this service. A plan of support will be designed for this student, involving all parties involved including yet not limited to; teachers, counselors, principal, school nurse, a coach and parents. This plan of support will be maintained and monitored by the school-based therapist. This will involve the meeting with the student weekly or when the student is distressed, the coordination of all communication to all those included in the plan of support. Ensuring that all necessary paperwork is secured and issues of confidentiality are clearly defined to all. This professional will also be available to provide a plan of support for events that occur that have an impact on the larger student body. An example of this may be the death of a student or the death of a teacher.
This professional will be required to maintain all necessary documentation. This professional will required to submit monthly ACCESS billing on eligible students. Provide referral information to the student and the parents of the students regarding services available within the larger community. This professional will be required to maintain all documentation and information in a confidential manner, securing it in a location that is locked.
It should be noted that the development of the role of this professional and specific job responsibilities will be a joint effort between the staff at the Upper Saint Clair School District and the staff at A + Consulting, INC.
